ASATU partners LG Service Commission on improved grassroots devp
THE new leadership of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) has called on the various stakeholders in the state to partner with the association for the overall development of communities in Anambra State.
Chairman of ASATU, Titus Nnabuike made the call during their courtesy visit to the board of Anambra State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Awka.
Nnabuike, while addressing the board outlined various areas where ASATU and the commission can partner in order to impact positively on the lives of ndi Anambra to include sensitisation of the people at the grassroots about the ongoing continuous Voter Registration Exercise in the state, employment opportunities for the unemployed, improved security, among others.
He extolled Governor Obiano especially in bringing government’s presence to all the communities in the state through the ‘Community Choose your Project’ initiative and his sterling leadership in other areas in the state.
In his remarks, Chairman, LGSC, Awka, Dr. Peter Egenti noted that community leadership is a collective responsibility, adding that there are many areas the Local Government Service Commission can collaborate with the town union executives for the overall development of the state.
While appreciating Governor Obiano for his excellent leadership in the state, sir Egenti stated that the local government system is the closest government to the ruler communities and needs to be adequately utilised for sustainable grassroots development.
Egenti, who described the ASATU leadership visit to the board as a welcome development, demonstrated the commissions readiness to partner with ASATU for improved community development
He maintained that the local government system in the state has competent, educated and highly dedicated staff that can help to take the Anambra State Local Government System to greater height if given maximum support.
In a vote of thanks, the National Liason Officer, ASATU, Ikechukwu Okeke, said that the Local Government Service Commission represented equity and Justice that ndi Igbo are fighting for.
His stressed that once there is Justice in governance, agitations will be reduced and thanked the LGSC Chairman and the board members for granting then audience
