DSS cracks down illegal oil refineries in Imo
IMO State Governor, Hope Uzodinma has decried the rate of unlawful and illegal refineries, smuggling and oil bunkering activities which has been on the rise in the state thereby leading to loss of revenue for the federal government and by extension, Imo State as oil bearing state, describing it as handiwork of economic saboteurs.
Governor Uzodinma made the emphasis when he inspected some confiscated oil consignment of over 60,000 metric tones of diesel by operatives of the Directorate of State Services (DSS), in Owerri, Imo State Capital.
The state chief executive, who was briefed by the operatives, commended them for their efforts in curbing down the excesses of pipeline vandals and criminal elements whose stock in trade was to sabotage the state economy.
He gave special thanks to the DSS for discovering and burning down illegal refineries of these men of unsound minds. The governor added that by putting such effort, the operatives would have saved a lot of revenue for the government.
Oil companies have cried out just recently against operators for putting up illegal refineries and theft of crude oil which runs counter to the sources of state revenue. The governor said that he would not relent in going after the hoodlums so as to save the state of fund which ordinarily would have gone into the purse of illegal men who do not think well for the government.
According to the governor, the bunkers were apprehended in the various places of operations where they established their illegal depots. He averred that the arrest of bunkers was a huge success made by the operatives to save state wealth, adding that the culprits have since confessed to the crime.
