Rotary Club of Awka, UNIZIK to partner Girl Guides Association
…Inaugurates new officers
TO MARK the beginning of a new Rotary Year, the Rotary Club of Awka, Nnamdi Azikiwe University(UNIZIK), District 9142, led by Rtn Abuchi Nwozor, has inaugurated new club officers who will continue to pilot the affairs of the club andpromised to partner Girl Guides Association, Anambra State Chapter.
The event which held at Finotel Classic Hotel, Awka, attracted past Assistant Governor, Rtn. Kalu Peters, Assistant Governor of Zone 10, Rtn Olachi Emegoakor, Rtn. Osy Okafor, Gabriel Ogbozobe, Ify Obi, among others.
The president, Rtn Abuchi Nwozor thanked past presidents of the club and members for their advice and words of encouragements despite all shortcomings encountered in his first tenure and assured to perform better in his second tenure.
While speaking to the members on objectives of Rotary, Kalu Peters said every Rotary Year begins with new club officers and urged members to increase in membership growth as to have more hands who will help in serving the club, adding values to the society and the world at large.
The new officers include;Rtn. Tony Menuba, president-elect, Rtn Ukpa Ewa, Secretary, Rtn Christopher Okafor, among other officers.
Also speaking, the state Commissioner of Girl Guides Association, Anambra State and few members of the association, Mrs Charity Akunne, during their visit to the club, said they came to partner with them to empower and organise a skill acquisition program like making of soup, beads, etc for both the youths and vulnerable women.
In his response, Rtn Kalu Peters and Olachi Emegoakor urged the team to come up with a proposal of their partnership, adding that any Rotary Club that partners with such an organisation and impact in Rotary seven areas of focus or five avenues of service and reports them to Rotary International, obtains better opportunity of the club to win Rotary citation at the end of the Rotary Year.
