Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors visits Anambra Airport

ANAMBRA citizens have been called upon to have confidence in Governor Willie Obiano’s administration, as he continues to deliver democracy dividends to ndi Anambra. 

Commissioner for Works, Marcel Ifejiofor stated this when the Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Anambra State Chapter visited the International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri.

Ifejiofor, said Governor Obiano had done legacy projects for ndi-Anambra, noting that in road infrastructure, Anambra has the best network of roads in Nigeria; With 14 bridge projects executed in the state, the 280m bridge that crosses Aguleri Uno to Aguleri Otu, being the longest.

According to him, the International Cargo and Passenger Airport Project, “was mobilised in late January 2020, and in less than 15 months, test ran . This is the only airport that was tested with Boeing 347, it is usually done with small planes. Building an airport is creating a community. The project has a lot of uniqueness; it has the second longest runway in Nigeria, measuring 3.7km.”

He assured that as  Gov Obiano’s administration elapses, that two other major projects in the state; the International Conference Centre with 10, 000 capacity, which is nearing completion, the Awka Township Stadium will be completed.

The state Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Chiedu Madueke, said the level and quality of work at the airport exceeded their expectation. “I want to commend Gov. Willie Obiano. His developmental strides speak well of his administration. We learnt that the state government solely funded the airport project. As quantity surveyors, we are familiar with costing; we know what it means in contributing to a quality job. The commissioner also deserves accolades.”

The vice chairman of the body and a lecturer at the Department of Quantity Surveying, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Emma Nwobu, said Gov. Obiano had actually wiped out tears of ndi Anambra with the airport project. “The denial, deprivation we have been suffering all these while, for lacking an airport is over. Besides, the project will attract development to the area, equally, driving tourism in the state.”

A Professor of Cost, Control and Management in the Department of Quantity Surveyor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Uchenna Ajato, thanked the commissioner for his dogged commitment to the quality of work at the airport.
