LIGHT Giver’s Humanitarian Foundation recently empowered over 200 farmers in Ihiala Local Government Area with farm inputs for enhancement of food production.

The non-governmental organisation distributed the farm inputs at the end of a three-month agricultural programme sensitisation it organised for rural women at Saint Martin’s Catholic Church, Ihiala.

Among the inputs were farm tools , bags of fertiliser, cassava stems, pesticides, seedling, and cash of N100, 000 per ward for the 21 wards in the council.

In his remark, the president-general of the community, Okey Chukwu, who observed that agriculture has remained the mainstay of the nation’s economy, explained that the support and sustainable development will have significant impact as well as assist the farmers to maximise their yields.

He noted that the benefactor has not only contributed to rural development but has demonstrated the think home philosophy of the present administration, “Aku lue Uno”, urging the women to utilise the input to stimulate growth in the agricultural sector.

The benefactor, Chief Stanley Obodoagwu, earlier in his address, said the empowerment programme was to give back to the society, expand capacity, secure food security as well as contribute in reducing poverty and unemployment rate.

He maintained that it gives him joy each time people benefitted from his gesture, stressing that his act of benevolent is not in any way politically oriented.

In their various remarks, the Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Information Strategy, Mr Akachukwu Mmaduakonam and the secretary-general of the foundation, Mrs. Mary Okeke commended Chief Obodoagwu for his countless efforts in boosting rural development through human oriented initiatives.
