NOCEN to commence schools of Chinese language, others
…Matriculates over 1000 students
NWAFOR Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN) in affliation with the University of Nigeria, has concluded plans and logistics to commence studies in Chinese language, Entrepreneurship and Digital Innovation. The move is geared towards students skill acquisition and boosting the internally generated revenue(IGR) of the institution.
Speaking to newsmen during the NOCEN 23rd/24th joint matriculation ceremony of over 1000 students, the Provost, Ifeyinwa Osegbo said that the Chinese School was open to both regular students and outsiders, especially Onitsha businessmen who often go for business trips to China and other Asian countries.
“We have completed construction of a building complex that will accommodate classrooms and offices for the Chinese language studies. Also, Chairman, Governing Council, NOCEN, Dr. Cletus Ibeto has donated a Sienna bus and erected a four-bedroom bungalow as residence for the Confucius Institute staff. So, Onitsha businessmen or anyone can come and get a certificate in Chinese language”, said Osegbo.
According to Dr. Osegbo, “because of the limited white collar jobs, the school management has concluded Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to patner with Digital Hands Limited to start a school of Entrepreneurship and Digital Innovation, a form of business school. Also, the college has concluded negotiations with Kunex Enterprises, which is geared towards skill acquisition. These schools will not only expose the students to different skills that will help them establish small and medium enterprises (SMEs) after graduation, it will also boost our IGR to augment the funding of various projects ongoing in the institution”.
Moreover, Osegbo advised the students to take their academic pursuit seriously, warning that NOCEN has zero tolerance for cultism, vices and any form of violence. She told students to employ dialogue through the Head of Students Affairs should any form of grieviance arise.
Dr. Osegbo further thanked Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State for re-appointing her as the provost for a second tenure, adding that the institution hopes to complete the NOCEN Table Water production plant, establishment of College Printing Press and expansion of the college agricultural farm for both internal use and commercial purposes.
