St Thomas Aquinas Choir, Awka, ends retreat
ST. GREGORY’S Choir of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, G.R.A. Awka, has held a three day retreat tagged ‘Liturgical Music Spiritual Essence of the Catholic Chorister’.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Newspaper and Printing Corporation, Publishers of National Light, Ka O Di Taa and SportLightXtra newspapers, Chuka Nnabuife, who said that the basic role of a chorister is to participate in the liturgy, described liturgy as the public performance of a worship or a mode of worship.
Sir Nnabuife urged the choristers to always pray very well to prepare themselves before coming out to sing. “A liturgical function requires a preparation, understanding the rituals and rights involved. Don’t take it that because you can sing very well, you act any way you like. It is not acceptable, lets pray and get ourselves ready before coming out to sing.
The Chairman of St Gregory’s Choir of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Awka, Michael Chibuike, said that it was an annual retreat, “a period of recollection of what we have done and how we can improve more by bringing those who know better than us to come and encourage us, tell us where we are doing it well and where we are not doing it well so we can take corrections and move ahead”.
Mr Chibuike, however, appreciated the speakers and prayed God to bless them.
