Police arrest killers of Gov. Ortom’s security aide, Dega
PLATEAU State Police Command yesterday, arrested three men in connection to the assassination of Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom’s security adviser, AIG Christopher Dega (rtd).
Spokesman of the command, Ubah Gabriel, disclosed this to newsmen in Jos.
According to Gabriel, the suspects were arrested from leads from detectives who were dispatched to the crime scene immediately reports of Dega’s an assassination reached the command.
“A crack team of detectives who snooped around the restaurant where the incident occurred were dispatched to smoke out the suspects who were believed to still be around the vicinity. In no time they rounded up the suspects who are now cooling their heels in detention while investigation has commenced,” he said.
It will be recalled that Plateau State Police Command had earlier confirmed a report that made the rounds that Dega was killed by unknown gun men.
A release issued by Gabriel said he was shot dead in a restaurant in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area.
“The Plateau State Police Command has on sad note received an ugly report of the death of AIG Christopher Dega (Rtd). On 31/05/2021 at about 2030hrs, AIG Christopher Dega (Rtd) was shot dead by three yet to be identified gunmen in an isolated restaurant at Bukuru, Jos. From the investigation so far, it appeared that he was trailed and shot. He arrived at Jos from Makurdi on the same date at about 1930hrs. Some suspects have been arrested. Meanwhile, the investigation is ongoing, he said.
