Police arrest five suspects who attacked Police station in Imo

Operatives of the Nigerian Police, Imo state Command, on Tuesday, repelled attack from hoodlums who attempted stopping the reconstruction of burnt down Orji Police Station, Owerri.

The operatives said they arrested five of the underworld men who melted into the town before arriving at the scene.

According to Imo Police Spokesman, Bala Elkana, the hoodlums felt that re-building of the police station would be an impediment to their nefarious operations. He listed names of suspects arrested by the command in the failed attack as Sabastine Chigaemezu, Ibe Casmir, Chinonso John, Chukwudi Okoro and Alozie Daberechi.

Mr.  Elkana hinted that no life was lost in the attack but according to him, mop-up action was put in place for the arrest of fleeing suspects.

According to the hints, hoodlums numbering over 30 men launched an offensive on the reconstruction site of Orji Divisional Police Headquarter which was earlier burnt down by hoodlums during the #End SARS protest, in the year 2020, they took another offence as a philanthropist contracted the reconstruction project at the site.

The hoodlums on sighting the re-enforcement team of the police ran into neighbouring villages, abandoning the operational vehicle which was recovered by the police.

The Imo State Police Commissioner, Abutu Yaro personally led the said re-enforcement team to the scene. The whole area was codoned and five suspects which the names were mentioned were arrested. Stray bullet from nowhere cut up and killed three persons – one man and  two women whose pictures have gone viral via social media.
