AROUND ANAMBRA
Propping trade, our goal – Obiano
Says his govt’ll keep making commerce-supporting policies
AFTER the inspections at the Anambra International passenger and Cargo Airport, Umueri, Anambra traders, who accompanied the governor on the tour, converged on Dr. Gechi Auditorium, Agulerim, where Governor Obiano commended them for their unflinching support so far and appealed to them to maintain the tempo.
Governor Obiano reminded the market leaders that his late mother was a trader at Ose Market in Onitsha, and as such, he understands the importance of traders, especially in Anambra, where majority of the people are into trade and commerce.
The governor reiterated that his administration will continue to churn out good policies that will support trade and commerce like security of life and property, the Anambra Airport, continuous payment of salaries to civil servants which in turn are used to buy stuffs from the traders and keep the economy active and virile. He commended the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Uche Okafor for coordinating all the markets well.
The commissioner, Okafor thanked Governor Obiano for providing security in the state.
Said he, ” the Anambra trader only requires any government to provide security for him. He knows how to go about the others. Akpokuedike, you provided that and more. We are celebrating seven years of nonviolent crimes in the state. Most of our traders who relocated to Asaba and other neighbouring states because of insecurity before you became the Governor of Anambra state are now back.”
” Your Excellency, you demonstrated your love for the traders when you became the only governor in the state to recognise and treat markets as another tier of government. You gave major markets in the state, N10 million each to choose and build a project that will benefit the traders. They are grateful to you for that”.
Furthermore, Okafor assured the governor and his wife, Dr. Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano of the unalloyed support of all the markets in the state. He appealed to the governor to inform them of who the APGA candidate is and be rest assured that they will collectively join hands and deliver the party and the candidate come November 6, 2021.
In their separate speeches, the President General of Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association, Chief Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu, the President of Onitsha Main Market, Chief Kenneth Onyeka and others, who spoke at the occasion assured the governor of their support and appealed to him to consider the traders in major decisions concerning the upcoming Anambra gubernatorial election.
