WORK is on top speed to complete the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri, by Governor Willie Obiano’s administration.
As is customary since the project commenced a year ago, Governor Obiano embarked on his weekly inspection visit to the site in company of his wife, Dr. Ebelechukwu Obiano, Senator Joy Emordi, Council of Knights of the Anglican Communion, Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Boboye Oyeyemi, Chief Executive Officer of Rotech Energy Services Limited, Chief Austin Oguejiofor, among others.
Since the last visit, visible changes were noted including completion of the two taxiways, advancement in the water reticulation project, completion of block work within the terminal building, ongoing tilling of the terminal building, among others.
Governor Obiano said that the state government was looking at maximum of two months to certify the airport for commercial flights operation, emphasising that funds was not borrowed for the project.
The Commissioner for Works, Marcel Ifejiofor, who pointed out that equipments for the terminal building and the control tower have all being paid for, said that the aerodrome fencing was 95 per cent completed.
While noting that the test run operation conducted on May 30, 2021, was successfully passed, Ifejiofor appreciated the governor for prompt payment of contractors which is why the project is progressing rapidly.
