80-yr-old Ondo woman, granddaughter caught with cocaine, heroin
… Another two nabbed in Adamawa
AN 80-year-old woman identified as Mary Adebayo and her 19-year-old granddaughter, Funmilola Adebayo, were arrested for possessing cocaine and heroin in Akure, Ondo State, yesterday.
They were apprehended with 192 kg of cocaine and other drugs that were concealed in their home in Akure after a raid by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operatives following a tip-off.
NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement issued to the media.
According to Babafemi, two other ladies were also arrested alongside the woman and her daughter for trading in illicit drugs including cocaine, heroin, tramadol, skuchies, methamphetamine, and swinol.
“During the early morning raid, the following were recovered from them: Skuchies – 149kg, cocaine –11gm, methamphetamine 17gm, heroin – 3 gm, cannabis Sativa – 4.914kg, swinol – 8gm and tramadol – 49 gm. Also recovered from them were two deep freezers and a TVS motorcycle. On the same date, at about 1:30 pm, a raid carried out at Rate Hotel, Care Street, in Akure South LGA also led to the arrest of 25-year-old Tessy Mathew, from whom 33 kg of skuchies were recovered,” he said.
Explaining further, he stated that a follow-up operation was immediately launched following preliminary interrogation of one Mathew, who was earlier nabbed, Babafemi stated that the follow-up operation led to the arrest of another 25-year-old, Blessing Adesida, in Oshinle area of the LGA where NDLEA operatives recovered 3kg of skuchies and 7 grammes of cannabis from Adesida during the raid.
In the same development, Babafemi said operatives of Adamawa Command of NDLEA had also arrested 58-year-old victor Chinedu Anwanya and Femi Abiodun, 47.
Both suspects were found with 80 blocks of compressed cannabis Sativa, weighing 76kgs.
