Igbo leaders worry over alleged planned attack on Ndigbo in North
THE alleged planned attack on Igbo people living in the Northern part of the country has continued to give sleepless nights to Igbo leaders even as the South East governors are well committed to the protection and safeguarding Northerners living in the region and their businesses.
Speaking to National Light on what shall be done to stem the tide of violence in the region, the National President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Amb. A. Obiorah noted that the governors in the South East are already addressing the issues by first setting up security outfit, Ebubeagu.
He urged Northern leaders, especially the governors to intervene in securing Igbos in the North even as he urged the federal government to take a holistic approach towards farmers, herders’ clashes as well as banditry in the country.
“We want to use this opportunity to call for understanding among different ethnic nationalities and need for equal opportunity for all irrespective of tribe or religion. Igbos are everywhere around the globe. If you go anywhere in the universe and you don’t see any Igbo man, pack your load and go. We are friendly and habour strangers. We are particularly concerned about the efforts of the governors of South East to ensuring peaceful coexistence for all ethnic nationalists in the region.”
On 2023 president of Igbo extraction, the Ohaneze leader said, we are not begging, it is our turn to produce the president. We cooperated with other ethnic groups, now all groups should give Ndigbo the desired support. It is president of Igbo extraction or nothing.
Also speaking on the planned attack by Northern youths, the SSA on Northern Women Affairs to Governor Hope Uzodinma, Hajiya Fatima Hamza said the recent orchestration meant to incite the Northerners to petty bigotry and reprisal attack calls for caution, stressing that it is their duty to continue to call on their people to understand the situation better.
“I want to use this opportunity to call on all Northern governors to emulate the exemplary deposition of Gov. Hope Uzodinma especially now that there are obvious sinister plot by desperate politicians to mechanise crisis and agenda reprisal attacks on our Igbo brothers and sisters doing their legitimate business in the North”.
