Abacha indigenes in America honour new traditional leaders
ABACHA Development Union (ADU) in North America has honoured the new traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Godwin Odiegwu along with the traditional prime minister, Chief Paul Omofia for their outstanding leadership roles in the town.
The event, which took place at Abacha Civic Center, Idemili North Council Area of Anambra State attracted illustrious sons and daughters of Abacha within and outside the community.
President General, Abacha Development Union, North America, Mr Louis Chiekwe, represented by retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Chief Ikemefuna Okoye and Chief Jonas Okafor, while making the award presentation, described the event as first of its kind in the community, explaining that the purpose was to appreciate the new traditional ruler for accepting to lead the town.
He also said that the traditional prime minister of the community, Chief Omofia was honoured for his relentless service to Abacha and to also recognise him as the oldest living and longest serving Onowu in Anambra State.
In their various remarks, a former Ambassador of Nigeria to South Africa, Ambassador Uche Ajulu-Okeke, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Projects, who is also the Cabinet Secretary of Abacha Community, Mr Jeffery Ubah, the President General of Abacha Community, Chief Ifeanyi Okeke-Obata and a former PG of the community, Mr Emeka Okelue, commended ADU, North America for honouring the duo, pledging their unalloyed support to peace and progress of Abacha community.
Speaking shortly after receiving the awards, Igwe Odiegwu and Chief Omofia thanked ADU, North America and Abacha people in general for the recognition, describing it as unprecedented and pledged to remain selfless in service for unity and peace in the community.
Also present at the award ceremony were the traditional prime ministers of Oraukwu, Alor and Uke, Chiefs Patrick Onyeduba, Nathan Ezekwesili and Peter Agubisi, among others.
