ANAMBRA State government says the Cargo and Passenger Airport at Umueri remains an international airport that will be commissioned when completed this year, adding that there is no regulatory impediment from federal government.
A release signed by Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C. Don Adinuba stated this while conveying Minister of Aviation’s description of the project as exceptional and of global best standard.
Adinuba issued the release to debunk rumours making the rounds in some circles that federal government through Ministry of Aviation refused to give Anambra State Government a licence to operate an international airport but rather offered a licence to run a domestic airport.
According to the statement, the people and government of Anambra State could not have asked for better cooperation from the minister and relevant agencies under his supervision, including Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), which have all given a clean bill of health to the project at very stage.
Describing the rumour as “false and misleading” and handiwork of hags and agents of destabilisation, the release urged ndi Anambra not to succumb to their calculated agenda of pitching the state against Ministry of Aviation on one hand and the federal government on the other in order to defeat Gov. Willie Obinao’s commitment to ensuring that the airport commences its first flight by month end.
