EDO State Government has vaccinated over 33,700 persons across the state with the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine, as part of its efforts to contain the second wave of the pandemic and ensure the safety of residents.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr Andrew Obi, disclosed this during the daily virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki.

Obaseki said the government has continued to step up efforts to win the war against the pandemic, urging residents to complement the government’s interventions by complying with preventive protocols against the spread of the deadly virus.

The Incident Manager, who noted that the efforts of the government to curb the spread of the virus is yielding gains, said Edo State is currently witnessing a reduction in the number of infections, deaths and active cases.

He noted that the state, in the last 72 hours, collected over 260 samples and recorded no deaths or new cases from the virus, adding, “Edo also recorded zero recoveries, with five active cases that are being managed at various treatment and isolation centres in the state.”

Reiterating the need for residents to get vaccinated and ensure compliance with guidelines against the spread of the infectious disease, the Incident Manager stated: “To sustain the gains recorded in the fight against the deadly virus, everyone must get vaccinated and after vaccination, ensure that all COVID-l9 guidelines are adhered to, to avoid a possible re-infection.”

Obaseki further urged citizens with COVID-19 symptoms to contact the Edo Emergency Operation Centre on this toll-free number: 08003625000 for assistance
