10-yr-old Anambra girl, Stephanie dazzles in Nat’l Sports Fest
… Wins gold, other medals in gymnastics
… Says ‘I want to win in Olympics’
NATIONAL Sports Festival has seen some great performances from athletes which were drawn from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
One of the high point of this event is the 10-year-old-girl, Stephanie Onusiriuka who won a gold medal in the Aerobics with 10.8 points. Her victory brings the total number of Gold medal won by Anambra State to 6.
Stephanie who represents Team Anambra and hails from Ihembosi had previously won 2 silver medal from the overall best gymnastics event in Nigeria and Floor Event. She also won a bronze medal in the beam event. These bring total number of her medal so far at the event to 4.
This is such a great talent and with proper exposure and training, She is the best overall gymnast in Nigeria now. She defeated all the men and women including some Olympians and African champions. Young Stephanie said she dreams of representing Nigeria in the Olympics some day.
Another athlete who created a new record was Chinecherem Nnamdi, who happens to be the 5th Gold medal winner for Team Anambra with a throw of 73.17 metres in Javelin event. A national record.
Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr. Philip Shuaibu has warned that if Anambra is not careful, Delta State will snatch Stephanie from her.
