NSF: Nwokocha cruises to victory in women’s 200m
GRACE Nwokocha flew to victory in the women’s 200m, 48 hours after claiming the 100m crown at the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) in Benin City, Edo State.
Nwokocha, running in the colours of Team Delta dipped under 23s for the first time in her career and sealed qualification to the Tokyo Olympics with a Personal Best of 22.79s.
Team Bayelsa’s Tima Godbless added 200m silver to her Bronze medal in the 100m with a Personal Best (PB) of 23.65 while Team Delta’s Praise also getting on the PB train to take 3rd in 23.74s.
In the men’s 200m, Team Edo’s Alaba Akintola took gold in a time of 20.51s ahead of Team Lagos’ Jerry Jakpa who finished in second place and equalled his PB of 20.59s while Chidi Okezie of Team Delta took bronze with 20.85s
Also, in the men’s basketball category; team Gombe was awarded the gold medal; team Kano, silver; while team Lagos got the bronze medal.
According to the NSF medal table as released on April 12, 2021, Delta State has the highest medals of 257, followed by Edo with 241, Anambra State was crawling to get 30 medals, while the least was Taraba and Jigawa who have not gotten anything yet.
