THE new Acting Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has harped on professionalism and responsibility as crucial to efficient policing system, promising to lead the force along these lines in his time at the helms.
Baba made the promise yesterday while speaking after taking over from former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu at Force Headquartres, Abuja, shortly after Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo decorated him his new rank.
According to him, he was mindful of the yearnings of Nigerians for a policing system that would not only assure their safety, but also police them with civility.
This, he said, his administration would provide at the highest level of professional and responsible leadership in the Nigeria Police to meet the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians.
Baba’s assumption of office followed his appointment to the new post on Tuesday, by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Announcing Baba’s appointment, Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, told State House Correspondents that he would assume office with immediate effect.
Until his appointment, Baba was a Deputy Inspector-General (DIG). He succeeds Adamu whose tenure that ended on February was extended by Buhari for three months.
