Insecurity: Group advocates state police, restructuring as solution

A GROUP under the aegis of National Youth Council of Nigeria, South East, has demanded for urgent restructuring of the country to avert surging insecurity and violence throughout the country.

 The National Vice Chairman, South East, William Nnoyelum in a statement further called for the establishment of a state police across the 36 states to checkmate the wave of crime rate and criminal elements.

  The vice chairman who decried the recent atrocities committed in the South East said innocent Nigerians were being killed like rams,, stressing that these are becoming norms even as security personnel are somewhat overwhelmed.

   Due to our respect for the sanctity of human life, we hereby call for the establishment of both regional and state police outfit.

 They would assist to strengthen the existing security apparatus throughout the country.

  They called on the National Assembly to commence deliberation on the recommendation of the committee on constitution review set up by NYCN to have a more functional and thriving Nigeria state.

  “Nigeria is long overdue for restructuring. The National Assembly must as a matter of urgency, articulate the issue and start the process which will lead to restructuring of the country”.

 “We noted with regret and sorrow the recent barbaric killing of innocent unarmed citizens and destruction of public property in Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo States by terrorists and called for discreet investigation. We condemned these dastardly acts of cowardice and called for better strategies to avert further occurrences”.
