Kogi hosts football for ex-Super Eagles stars

KOGI State Governor, Yahaya Bello inspired his team to a 1-1 draw in an exciting friendly football match against Ex-Super Eagles stars at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria.

  Renowned players like Austin JJ Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Julius Aghahowa, Taribo West, Tijani Babangida, Peter Rufai, Mutiu Adepoju and other notable ex-international stars were featured. The event treated football lovers and their fans to a match with the governor’s team, which included officials of the government and lawmakers.

  The governor, who captained the GYB men team beat former Super Eagles goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu from the penalty spot when the commissioner of information, Kingsley Fanwo, was fouled in the 18-yard box.

  Julius Aghahowa scored an equaliser in the second half to make the result 1-1 at full time.

  Governor Bello said such sporting activity was significant being that it would serve as a reminder to Nigerians how united the country was as a nation during the glory days of the soccer legends.

  He affirmed that their passion and dedication to the nation aside from bringing glory to Nigeria went a long way to integrate the various sections of the country, despite their ethnic differences united together for the greatest good of the country.
