A 40-year-old man whose name was not given has killed his one-year-old baby in Dantanoma area of Gumel, Jigawa State and dumped his corpse in a gutter along Maigatari Road.

  But he hid the baby’s body for three weeks before disposing it off.

  He was arrested after he was reported at Gumel police station by one Yanusa Mohammed.

  Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Jigawa State, Zubairu Aminuddeen, confirmed the arrest to journalists yesterday.

  According to him, the suspect killed the baby because he was allegedly born for his wife by her lover.

  “On March 19, 2021, one Yanusa Mohammed, aged 30, of Dantanoma quarters Gumel local government area, reported the incident at Gumel police station. The complainant had informed the police that the suspect took the child from his mother a month ago on the pretext of taking him to his sister in Kano. He later informed her that the baby died on his way to Kano and has been buried. But he killed the baby because he denied his paternity,” Aminuddeen said.

  He also disclosed that the suspect will soon be charged to court after investigation has been concluded in his case.

  Similarly, Kano State Police Command yesterday arrested a father, one Awaisu Auwalu, 40, who beat up his 19-year-old son, Auwalu Awaisu to death over alleged theft.

  Awaisu used a stick to beat up his son who died days after he was rushed to the hospital.

  Police Public Relations Officer in Kano State, Abdullahi Haruna who confirmed this to newsmen said the father alleged that he beat up his son for stealing items from his provision shop.
