… Urges INEC to deploy machines, commence sensitisation

IMEOBI Igbo Forum, a grassroot Pan Igbo Socio-cultural Organisation interested in the political wellbeing of ndigbo has voiced their support backing the possible introduction of Electronic Voting System (EVS) in Anambra 2021 gubernatorial election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), tasking the electoral body to commence deployment of machines and sensitisation cum education of the people for its utilisation and success.

Speaking via a press release signed by the Imeobi Igbo Forum’s National Chairman, Dr. Michael Ikegulu and the National Secretary, Chibuike Nwabueze, the forum recalled that INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, during the budget defense at the House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters at Abuja, on November 4, 2020, revealed their determination to deploy balloting machines for possible electronic voting in the Anambra governorship elections to serve as a test run for deployment at the national level.

“Since this statement, not much has been heard about the EVS machines and their possible deployment. The Anambra 2021 election is fast approaching and the EVS requires mobilisation and education of the people for its utilisation to ensure success. Imeobi Igbo Forum is ready to participate in fully actualising it”.

“We are fully dedicated to stamping out manipulation of cast ballots and vote buying. The forum urges INEC to expedite action in the introduction of this technology which ensures regularity and authenticity of cast ballots. This will save our people the unnecessary rancor and needless litigations that follow the process of voting in our polity..”
