GOVERNOR Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has launched the COVID-19 vaccination in the state.
The flag off campaign kicked off in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The governor, while speaking on the occasion, stated that the first phase of the vaccination is mainly for frontline health workers.
It is also expected that officials of the state government, as well as the local government appointees, would be given priority for the COVID-19 jab.
Recall that the state government had, on Thursday, March 11, confirmed the receipt of 127, 740 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Abuja.
A statement by Taiwo Adisa, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, had indicated that the vaccines were received in Ibadan by the Oyo State Primary Healthcare Board.
The executive secretary of the board, Dr. Muideen Olatunji, had said that the 127,740 doses of the vaccines were the first phase of vaccine distribution.
Prior to vaccination, health workers were said to have been trained at the local government levels on the correct application of the vaccine.
