MEMBERS of newly inaugurated Ochiagha Age grade of Ogbunike communitiy in Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State have determined to uphold their motto: ‘Peace, Love and Progress’ saying that they would pursue goals which foster peace, and embark on developmental projects within and outside their community.
They gave the assurance recently during the outing cum inauguration ceremony of Ochiagha Age grade which held at the Ogbunike Town hall premises.
Speaking during the glamorous event, PG Anambra Butchers Association and an Ochiagha Pillar Awardee, High Chief Afam Okeke, said that the age grade comprises men born between 1966 and 1969 during the Nigeria/Biafra civil war which ravaged the South Eastern Nigeria.
“I am happy that today, Ochiagha Age Grade has become officially recognised in Ogbunike town. For the last 20years, there has not been such an outing of age grade in Ogbunike, in fact we had to facilitate the immediate age grade senior to us to embark on their outing to enable us to celebrate our own outing.
“We were born during the war and God helped us to survive the war. Today, Ochiagha Age Grade makes up the fulcrum of Ogbunike community. You will find people of different categories from various fields of human endeavors among us and we intend to continue to embark on more developmental projects that will bring progress to our community”, said Okeke.
Moreover, another member of Ochiagha age grade, Sir Nnamdi Emmanuel Chinawaluji, MD, EJ Harris International Limited described the age-grade as a homecoming for those living within and outside the country, saying that it would give them the opportunity to look inwards to see ways to help each other and the community at large.
Also, the Occasion Chairman, Chief Obi Azodo, High Chief Obiora Ofia, Mr. Izegbu Vincent Obiora, OGB Ogbunike, Mr. Emmanuel Ifitezue praised Ochiagha age grade, urging other age grades to emulate their vision and embark on meaningful projects that would make Ogbunike community the cynosure of all eyes in Anambra State.
Earlier in their respective addresses, the President and Secretary of Ochiagha age grade, Dr. Tony Isizor, and Aghaegbuna Uwaezuoke respectively eulogised the efforts of both members and non-members of Ochiagha age grade who made the epoch-making event a success. They recognised the personality of their national patron, Dr. Emmanuel Okeke who had supported the age-grade in sponsoring projects like the renovation of the town hall, installation of street lights and rehabilitation of borehole within the hall premises.
Speaking during the occasion, the PG, OPU Caretaker Committee, Comrade Chukwugozie Ikegulu, who is also a member of Ochiagha Age-grade described them as pacesetters who have brought warmth and vibrancy to Ogbunike community.
Ikegulu urged the age-grade and other members of the community to embrace peace and love especially as they were about to start preparations for the last ofala of Igwe John Umenyiora, admonishing them to always think of what to do for Ogbunike community.
