THE need for Nigerians to play active roles in humanitarian services to enhance rapid response during disaster has been stressed.
This took the centre stage at the 46th annual general meeting of the Oyo State branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRS), in Ibadan, on Thursday.
The event attracted the attention of political office holders and security agencies.
In a remark, Commissioner for Health in Oyo State, Dr Bashir Bello advised the members of NRS to extend their life –saving mandate to the grassroots.
Chairperson of the state branch, Mrs Mojisola Ojo, who urged well meaning Nigerians to join the Nigerian Red Cross Society, explained that there was no barrier in humanitarian services, hence the need for passionate participation by all and sundry to save victims of disasters and accidents.
In separate goodwill messages, Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism and his counterpart from Trade and Investment, who were both represented, commended the Nigerian Red Cross Society for its diligent efforts at ensuring a better society.
