ENUGU-AGIDI youths in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, have resolved to deploy every possible measures to ensure lasting peace and development in the town.
This was disclosed when the youths of Enugu-Agidi alongside creme-de la crème in the community gathered for their annual get-together, geared towards promoting unity in the community.
The event was held at the Palace Hall of their traditional ruler, Igwe Michael Okekeuche.
Reading his address, the President, Enugu-Agidi Youths Organisation, Daniel Egbuonu noted that part of the reasons for the event was to appreciate those who had been contributing immensely to the development of the community.
Comrade Egbuonu disclosed that he assumed office in April 29, 2020, and had within the short time, attracted meaningful projects to the community.
He listed some of the achievements irrespective of the COVID-19 pandemic, including establishment of Enugu Agidi Computer Training Center, for youths to acquire technological knowledge before gaining admission into tertiary institutions.
In his words: ” After the establishment of the Computer Training Center, we considered the need for security measures. With the help of Lady Helen Ekesi and family, we resolved the security issues.
” We are embarking on creating E-Agidi collection, where we will identify some Enugu Agidi youths who would want to learn trading of anything. If it is shoe production, we will pay for two rooms in Aba, Abia state, to train two youths annually.
“This shoe production training will last for six months. After the first batch, comes the second batch and it goes like that.
In his speech titled: “Youth integration: A Sine Qua Non for Sustainable Peace and Development in Enugu Agidi”, an international figure, Senator Gab Okoye, recognszed youths as vital organs of every society, urging them to engage in meaningful activities to better their lives and project the community, instead of promoting disunity and involving in activities that were inimical to the community.
He urged the Leaders of the community to fashion out measures to empower youth in various cooperatives and start up microfinance for the good of the community
Also on her part, the Chairlady, Enugu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU), Mrs Mercy Onubiyi said the women had been in support of youths activities in the community.
She charged the youths to come together so as to form a developmental force for the community.
Sir Dan Okekenta, Who spoke on “Mending the Crack on the Wall of Our Brotherhood: The Role of the Youths” regretted that some parents and elders empower youths with arms to be thugs, while their children would be sent out for education.
Highlights of the event were installation of grand patron, patroness and patrons, as well as presentation of awards.
