IT was celebration of life as the remains of the late Sophia Akueke Uzoegwu was laid to rest, Thursday, at Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The event was graced by dignitaries from far and near including the former governor of Anambra State and Minister of Labour, Chris Nwabueze Ngige, former Governor of Anambra State and PDP presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, Senator Victor Umeh, former and current members of the state house of Assembly, among others.
The late Sophia Uzoegwu, popularly known as Gas Umuagbala, who died at the age of 83, after so many years of illness, was described as lover of music, wise, jovial and peaceful woman who believed in saying the truth by family members, friends and well-wishers
The burial Mass, which was held at All Saints Catholic, Church Nkpor- Agu, had many priest in attendance, Ugochukwu Evaristus Nwagbara, in his sermon admonished the people to be ready to meet their creator at any point, saying that Mama Sophia did not die but went back to where she came from.
Rev Fr.Nwagbara prayed for the soul of late Mama Uzoegwu to have a peaceful rest and encouraged the family of the deceased to live in peace and hamony, worship God in truth and not to stop following the footsteps of their mother.
In a farewell message, the eldest son of the deceased and former member, Anambra State House of Assembly, Alfonso Okey Uzoegwu, said that the death of their mother had created a big vacuum in his life and that of the family.
“She believed that destiny is unstoppable and taught us the value of working hard. I thank God that the burial went successfully and also appreciate everyone who graced the event. I pray that the soul of my mother rest in the bosom of the Lord”, he said.
In a tribute, the first daughter of the deceased, Adaobi Clara Uzoegwu, described her mother as truthful and very accommodating woman whose faith in God was never in doubt despite her long years of illness.
Former Senator, representing Anambra Central Constituency, Senator Annie Okonkwo, who was represented by Emenike Nwigbo consoled the family, adding that God will grant the soul of their late mother eternal rest.
The Chairman, Nkpor Main Market Fans Club, Emeka Emeka said that he came with other members of the club to pay last respect to the mother of their patron, Linus Uzoegwu.
