WIFE of the governor of Anambra State, Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano has visited Ayamelum Local Government Area on her Community Empowerment Tour to meet with widows, the indigent, the elderly and disabled persons.
The empowerment tour took place at the LG Secretariat at Anaku, in company of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) faithful.
In a welcome address by the wife of the LG caretaker committee chairman, Mrs Maureen Nkiruka Onyeabo, she hailed the governor for awarding a 6.3 kilometer road construction contract from Igbariam to Anaku.
She, however, pleaded that the road be completed with speed as this is dry season.
The wife of the governor presented not less than 200 bags of home- grown rice to the poorest of the poor, urging the rich to always give out to the needy and hungry.
According to her, the government alone cannot afford to feed the entire citizens of the state.
“The wife of the governor has been more than a mother to us in Ayamelum,” said the Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr Uche Okafor, who hails from Ifite-Ogwari in the LGA.
He praised the efforts of the governor over the construction of Igbariam-Anaku 6.3 Kilometer Road in fulfillment of his campaign promises.
The tour had so many dignitaries and political appointees including Lady Ndidi Mezue, Commissioner for Children, Youth and Women Affairs, Mr Ben Onyeabo, Chairman, Ayamelum LGA, Mr Emeka Ezike, and Lady Phina Uche Onwuatu.
Igwe Christopher C Ndibe of Umerum, the youngest traditional ruler together with his first wife, Lolo Mrs Monica Ijeoma Ndibe were also in attendance.
The widows, the indigent, elderly and the entire disabled persons, who attended the occasion smiled home with a bag of Anambra Rice each, with vegetable oil, leather bags and envelopes containing undisclosed amounts as their transportation fares and December allowances.
