LAZIO have won only once in their last four competitive matches (D2, L1), but a 2-2 draw in midweek saw them progress to the UEFA Champions League knockout phase and boosted their morale. It also continued a recent trend, as 11 of their previous 12 competitive matches have seen both teams hit the net, with the opener arriving inside the first 20 minutes in four of the last five.
In Serie A (SA) terms only, Lazio have won just once at home this term, with all five matches featuring both teams hit the net (W1, D2, L2). Alarmingly for them, the hosts have conceded first four times, with three of those goals also arriving inside the opening 20 minutes.
Conceding a joint league-low eight goals after the opening ten league rounds, Hellas Verona have lost just once in their previous seven SA outings (W2, D4, L1), with the last three producing exactly two goals (W1, D1, L1). Unsurprisingly perhaps, a league-high 70% of their ten SA matches have seen under 2.5 match goals, with Verona scoring before HT in just one of those seven.
The visitors ended November by winning an away league game for the first time since January. Eleven of Verona’s 16 away league matches played in 2020 have also featured less than 2.5 match goals, but they have scored the opener in each of the last four SA away matches to see them find the net (W1, D3).
Players to watch: Ciro Immobile has found the net in five consecutive SA starts, with three of those goals arriving beyond the 70th minute. Verona’s Mattia Zaccagni could also make a late impact, netting twice across the last two SA matches and being his team’s last goalscorer on both occasions.
PREDICTION: LAZIO TO WIN
