IN AN INTRIGUE trailing Governor David Umahi’s defection from the PDP to the APC , former Senate president, Pius Anyim says the Ebonyi State governor is plotting to kill him.
Anyim disclosed this in a message yesterday, while seeking security operatives to protect him from Umahi’s alleged threats
The ex- Senate president, alleged that his life is now in danger over his refusal to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to report, the . ex-Senate president says Governor Umahi is plotting to kill him because he (Anyim) refused to defect to APC with Umahi.
The former Senate leader had since distanced himself from every defection rumour railing the incident.
Source says, he notified the public, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, and the Department of State Services (DSS) over the alleged threat to his life.
Anyim further says Umahi is seeking vengeance against him because he turned down the governor’s pleas to join him (Umahi) in the APC.
According to him, the governor came to his house in the company of some high-profile people on November 20 to persuade him to become a member of the ruling party.
“I pointed out to him that his approach has made it almost impossible for anybody to defect. He pleaded with me that if I cannot defect now, I should not attend any PDP meetings, and I said no, I must attend PDP meetings as long as I am in PDP.”
The politician claimed the governor has declared war on everyone who has refused to defect with him.
Reported reveals that Anyim has dismissed Umahi’s claim that he agreed to defect with him to the APC but later refused.
The former Senate president described the governor as a delusional politician who is consumed by his own greed and inordinate ambition.
Meanwhile, the failure of the leadership of the PDP to announce the zone that would produce the presidential standard-bearer in 2023 has pitched the leaders of the party against one another.
Earlier reports show that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP has come under increasing pressure to declare its position on the zoning system. More governors elected on the platform of the party are reportedly threatening to switch camps if the party leadership fails to show more commitment to zoning the presidential ticket to the southern region.
Anyim while affirming his stay with PDP declared in an open letter copied President Muhammadu Buhari and all the heads of security agencies in Nigeria, in which he alleged that Governor Umahi was now after his life.
According to Anyim, “The discerning public knows that he has been on the plan for a long time and when he decided to consummate it, he suddenly concocted an accusation against PDP, that PDP was not willing to zone Presidency to the South-East.
“People who know Governor Umahi know that he normally starts this way whenever he is hatching a sinister plan. “
He noted that Umahi raises dusts, makes wild allegations and accusations against people just to divert the attention of the public before he strikes.
“It is public knowledge that Governor Umahi had been planning his defection to the All Progressive Congress, APC, for a long time.
