Anambra Gov, 8 others receive award of excellence on FGN/IFAD-VCDP

ANAMBRA State, along with eight other participating states were presented with awards of excellence for the commitment in the payment of their counterpart funds for Cassava Value Chain

  Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, was ably represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Nnamdi Onukwuba. 

  The award was presented while  concluding a  2-day national event on the ‘Second National Commodity Alliance Forum (NCAF),  held in Abuja.

  The event was organized by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the International Fund for Agricultural Development Programme of Value Chain Development Programme.

  The Minister for Agriculture, Sabo Nanono, in his address opined that VCDP is championing the agricultural dreams of the federal government, adding that the CAF concept is indeed a good ideology that should be adopted by the government and replicated across the federation.

  Earlier, the National Programme Coordinator of VCDP, Mr. Garba Bala, while presenting the implementation progress report of the Value Chain Programme, stated that the programme has recorded tremendous achievements and successes through its implementation strategy since the take off in 2015.

  The NPC however, expressed worry over the low off taking of cassava crop, stressing its effect on the beneficiaries of the programme. He thereby solicited for partnership from key stakeholders, major off takers and investors towards solving the challenge bordering on the Cassava Value Chain, hence the theme of the event ‘Enhancing Productivity and Market Opportunities for Cassava Value Chain Development’.

  Contributing, the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, who was ably represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Nnamdi   Onukwuba said, setting up of mini cassava processing centers at strategic locations was key, while availing the aggregation centers, as well embrace cluster farming as a way forward to building a strong chain for production and processing of cassava

  Mr. Onukwuba also said the event had given room for exchange visit among the participating states of the programme towards adopting good practices of the Cassava Value Chain as regards to Ogun State.
