Woman nabbed attempting to sell baby in Anambra


THE police in Anambra State have arrested a woman, Emila Sunday, for attempting to sell her three-month-old baby boy for N150,000.

  An indigene of Akwa Ibom State, Emila was nabbed in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.

  The 21-year-old woman who complained of hardship allegedly wanted to sell the baby to use the proceeds for Christmas celebrations.

  Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Anambra Police Command, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident.

  According to Mohammed, the woman was nabbed yesterday evening by police.

  “On Tuesday about 6 pm, following intelligence report, police operatives attached to Ojoto Division in Anambra State arrested one Emila Sunday who claimed to be 21 years old from Akwa Ibom State with a three-month-old baby boy at Ire village Ojoto.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was attempting to sell her three-month-old baby boy which the suspect claimed was due to hardship,” Mohammed said.

  He also said the baby had been rescued in good health condition, adding that investigation was ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the matter.
