EndSARS: Police commend Anambra’s proactive strategies

THE police high command has commended Anambra for taking strategic proactive measure to stop the recent protests under #EndSARS movement.

  Speaking to policemen on ground, DCP Atayero who was accompanied by senior officers of the Police Force in Anambra State, conveyed the heartfelt sympathy of the IGP to the officers for their loss, assured that the force remains committed to the security of lives and property, and urged the officers to remain committed in the discharge of their duties.

  He commended Anambra State Government and individuals who had earlier began re- construction work at some police facilities saying such a feat has proved an existing cordial relationship with the state government and the police.

  The High-powered Committee for the Assessment of Losses Suffered by the Nigeria Police Force has embarked on assessment tour of different Police formations destroyed by hooligans during the EndSARS protests.

  The team led by DCP Patrick Atayero said the assessment was directed by the IGP Mohammed Adamu and is aimed at documenting losses incurred by policemen, families, police formations and making necessary recommendations that will lead to reconstruction and ease the trauma caused during the unrest.

  Also speaking, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Haruna, who disclosed that the team had earlier visited other states of the federation including Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Calabar, said that the team had commiserated with bereaved families, injured policemen and assured that they would compile all property destroyed and report to the IGP for further action.

  Police facilities visited include the disbanded SARS unit Neni, Nigeria Police Divisional Headquarters at Otolo, Ezinifite, Osumenyi, Amichi and Ukpor in Nnewi South Council Area, the Nigeria Police Division Nnobi amongst others.

  The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has approved the promotion of 82,779 junior police officers to their next ranks.

The force said the promotion of the officers was part of the efforts at boosting the morale of personnel and repositioning the Police for greater efficiency.

  Those promoted also include 86 junior officers negatively impacted by the #EndSARS riots, 16 of whom got special posthumous promotion while 70 others injured during the violence arising from the protests were equally elevated.

  In a statement signed by the Force Spokesman, DCP Frank Mba, the IGP while congratulating the officers, charged them to see their promotion as a mark of additional responsibility and a call to rededicate themselves to their professional calling.

  “He enjoined them to continue to carry out their duties diligently and in conformity with best practices and respect for the rights of the citizen.

  The statement further said the IG also promised to work with all relevant agencies, organs of government and other stakeholders in driving a successful reform of the police for improved welfare and conditions of service “towards better service delivery to the people.”
