FEDERAL Government IFAD-VCDP has expanded its Support for Cassava Processing Operations (SFCPO) to two more local government areas in Anambra State; they are Awka North and Anambra East.
The operation centres comprise cassava peeling room, grinding, fermenting, washing, sieving and frying as well as packing room with 24-hour backup solar powered borehole for all-round processing for the local government areas and beyond.
Inaugurating the projects, yesterday, National Programme Coordinator, IFAD-VCDP, Garba Bala, said the structures erected strategically close to local markets will help address the challenges farmers’ face in processing their produce in the local
Soliciting more participation especially in their upcoming training for cassava and rice processing farmers in addressing some of the issues faced by farmers in agriculture sector, Bala commended the state government for its continuous support in achieving over 80 per cent development targets in agriculture.
Earlier while welcoming the team, Anambra State Commissioner for Agricultur, Nnamdi Onukwuba reminded all that state government will always prioritise intervention that improves and promotes the agriculture sector. But he urged farmers to put the modern cassava facilities to best use.
Contributing, State Coordinator, IFAD-VCDP, Nnamdi Agwuncha said the essence of the visit was to formally hand over the projects to the communities to help solve farmers’ problems.
Responding, President-General of Mgbakwu, Chief Edwin Udefuna and Chairman, Njikoamaka Cooperative, Mgbakwu, Chief Chukwualuka Onwuzuluigbo lauded the state government for investing so much in policies and programmes aimed at boosting agricultural production as it has led to increased rice production and decrease in billions of naira spent on its importation.
