US election: Trump claims victory hours after saying Biden won

INCUMBENT President of United States, Donald Trump, has declared himself the winner of November 3 presidential election just hours after he tweeted that President elect, Joe Biden “won because the election was rigged.”

Trump made the claim today in a tweet, saying “I won the election.”

But the tweet was tagged as misleading by Twitter, Trump said, “But Twitter tagged the post, saying, “Official sources called this election differently”.

Trump had on November 5, claimed victory in the presidential race and accused his critics and the media of stealing the election from him.

But yesterday, he said that Biden won because the election was rigged while refusing to concede that he lost.

The latest vote tallies gave Biden a clear win in the state-by-state Electoral College that decides the presidency, with 306 votes against Trump’s 232.

It will be recalled that US networks projected that Biden won the state of Georgia to get 306 votes in the Electoral College but 270 votes are required for election.

Meanwhile, Biden has continued with his transition plans, saying Trump’s refusal to concede his election loss was an “embarrassment”.

“I just think it’s an embarrassment, quite frankly. How can I say this tactfully? I think it will not help the president’s legacy,” Biden told reporters in his home town of Wilmington, Delaware.
