IN KEEPING with his commitment to security of life and property, Gov. Willie Obiano has donated additional 13 operational vehicles to the Rapid Response Team (RRT) of the Nigeria Police in Anambra State.
Gov. Obiano presented the smart city patrol vehicles to Police Area Command Headquartres, Awka, yesterday.
He expressed confidence that the vehicles will enhance better police patrol in the state, especially Nkpor, Upper Iweka, Okpoko, Ogidi, Inland Town areas among other places.
Speaking during the presentation, the governor said that the donation was also part of the state’s appreciation of the invaluable role played by police in containing the recent #EndSARS protests from escalating.
According to Gov. Obiano, only such reward can boost morale of police officers in discharging their duty of maintenance of law and order.
Next of kins to the police officers who lost their lives during the #EndSARS protest received cheques of N2 million each while 18 injured officers were given cash donations of N250, 000 each apart from their hospital bills which will be paid by the state government.
Special mention was made of gallantry of Onitsha Area Command, among other police formations, rewarded with cash of N1million .
The governor said that the vehicles were to enable the officers to arrive at crime scenes real time, stressing that they should not be abused, asking them not to allow people live in uncompleted buildings.
While commending Anambra youths for mobilising to defend their communities, he reminded officers that the #EndSARS brought alot of lessons, especially to the police; as it relates to corruption and brutality.
