CANDIDATE of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in recent governorship election in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede has filed his petition against the victory of Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu of All Progressives Congress (APC) before Ondo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal (EPT), Akure.
Joined in the petition are Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Deputy Govenor-elect, Lucky Aiyedatiwa and APC.
Speaking with newsmen after filing the court process, Jegede’s counsel, Ifedayo Adedipe expressed discomforts with the outcome of the election.
According to Adedipe, Jegede is challenging the election on four grounds including massive irregularities, violence, vote buying and intimidation of eligible voters.
Adedipe also faulted the emergence of Akeredolu as the governorship candidate of the APC, claiming that the primary election that produced Akeredolu as the governorship candidate of the APC fell short of standard.
It will be recalled that INEC had declared Akeredolu winner of the governorship election, having polled the highest number of lawful votes in the election, to defeat Agboola Ajayi of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and Jegede.
