Anambra lifts ban on town union, chieftaincy elections

THE ban on elections into town union governments and traditional rulers’ posts as well as executive officers of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) and its Women and Youth Wings in Anambra State has been suspended.

  A press release signed by Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Greg Obi stated that suspension of the ban will take effect from November 2.

  The release further directs that elections, where they are due or necessary, must be conducted in strict compliance with all COVID-19 protocols and under the supervision of Ministry of Local Government Chieftaincy and Community Affairs.

  It will be recalled that the state government had in May suspended elections into all community-based government as part of efforts to contain the global pandemic.
