TWO persons, Nonso Udeh, (male) 38, and Kelechukwu Aguonu, (female) 25, have been arraigned before an Ekwusigo Magistrate Court presided over by Mrs V. O. Agu on a two count charge of child theft and fraudulent take away of Master Kamsiyochukwu Onwughalu with the intent to deprive his mother, Uchechukwu Onwughalu of the child.
The charges raised against the suspects in suit No. MOZ/121c read inter alia: “that you Nonso Udeh, male, of Okwelleogu Otolo Nnewi, Kelechi Aguonu (female) of Onitsha Ihembosi and others now at large on or about the 25th day of September, 2020, at Akam Eziorah Ozubulu, in Ekwusigo Magisterial District, did conspire to commit felony to wit; child stealing . You thereby committed an offence punishable under section 495(a) of the Criminal code cap 36 vol. 11 Revised laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991.
That you, Nonso Udeh (male), Kelechukwu Aguonu (female) of the above mentioned addresses and others now at large on the same date, place and within the afformentioned addresses, did fraudulently take away one Master Kamsiyochukwu Onwughalu, aged three years, with intent to deprive his mother, one Uchechukwu Onwughalu, who has the lawful charge or care of the said Master Kamsiyochukwu Onwughalu of his possession. You hereby committed an offence punishable under section 321(a) of the criminal code cap 36 Vol 11 Revised laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991.
When the case came up for mention, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The presiding magistrate had after hearing the submissions of counsels to the accused and the police prosecutor, Sergeant Akachukwu Obi, adjourned the case to November 23, 2020.
The magistrate granted the accused persons bail with the sum of N200,000 each, with one surety each, who should be resident within the jurisdiction of the court and must be a civil servant of grade level 12 and above.
According to the magistrate, the accused should each produce two passport photographs.
