PEOPLE of Idemili South LGA have been commended for largely observing the preventive measures outlined by the government to stem COVID-19 pandemic.
Wife of Anambra State Governor, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano made this observation at Ojoto, headquarters of Idemili South Local Government Area (LGA) in continuation of her state-wide tour.
The tour was aimed at empowering the indigent women, widows and the less privileged individuals.
“With what I am seeing; the way you are conducting yourselves with social distancing and the wearing of nose masks and face shields, you are the best in the fight against coronavirus among the other LGAs I previously visited.”
Mrs Obiano enjoined mothers in the area to teach and ensure that their children take water to school for drinking and washing of their hands each time they want to eat and after returning from playgrounds.
She also told them to inculcate the habit of cleanliness in their children by telling them to make sure that their face masks were washed and worn properly for their safety.
“I am pleading with you to stay steadfast in observing the COVID-19 protocols; it is the only reliable way to curb the spread of the virus.”
She enjoined village heads to make a list of all persons needing training for skills, empowerment, and rehabilitation.
“You need to forward the list to my office so that they will be taught skills with which they can fend for themselves.”
Mrs Obiano, however, urged the people to look out for roads and government projects that need maintenance and bring them to the attention of the government through the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Matters for prompt intervention.
Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Dr Ndidi Mezue said that aside empowering the less privileged, the wife of the governor had built 27 houses with 27 working boreholes for widows.
Wife of Idemili South Transitional Chairman, Mrs Chinyere Unachukwu, while speaking to the people said that several indigent women and widows, as well as handicapped persons in various communities of Idemili South benefitted from the support and empowerment of Mrs Obiano.
Mrs Obiano shared gifts including bags of rice, cash and clothing to indigent persons during the visit.
Service men and traditional rulers of various communities in Idemili South attended the event.
