Anambra begins mentorship training, tech support for youths

ANAMBRA State has flagged off mentorship and technical support services for youths. The extensive training regime spreads through shoe making in Awka town, Awka South Local Government Area   and Amesi in Aguata LGA.

  The exercise, which is first edition of Anambra State Coaching and Mentoring Session organised by Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, is retooled by government to train, facilitate and support the skills of  thousands of young people in different skills set. While many of those trained are already empowered and running their trades, over 46 youths are currently on internship

  Anambra State Commissioner of Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy Prof. Theresa Obiekezie is leading the special coaching and mentoring sessions for all the trainees with Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Obiano on Youth Mobilisation, Ugonna Emechebe, his counterpart on Youth Entrepreneurship, Eloka Maduekwe and MD-CEO of Jassy Coaching Services, Obinna Jassy Nwakpadolu also on hand to lend technical support.

  Today’s session on footwear production or shoemaking at Amesi in Aguata Local Government Area was held courtesy of Dr. Cater Umeh.

  In a speech during the event that was held at the Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, the Commissioner, Prof Obiekezie said the programme was in fulfillment of government’s commitment towards developing budding entrepreneurs.

  According to her, on completion of their internship, beneficiaries would be issued with trade test certificates in shoe making and also assisted to access loans for easy take-off.

She advised them to take advantage of ongoing Federal Government COVID-19 Survival Fund Scheme for artisans to boost their financial drive.

  Speaking on human capacity development strategies, Director of Digital Entrepreneurship Office, Ifeanyi Aniagor, identified self-discovery, fiscal discipline and focused business concept as critical factors needed for beginners to succeed.

  While urging participants to inculcate positive values and the right mindset, he underscored the importance of creativity in providing solutions to challenges to enable them to move to the next level.
