… Falz, others demand compensation to victims
LAGOS State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed the police to release all individuals arrested during the #EndSARS protests
Reiterating the need for youths to shun further protests, Sanwo-Olu ordered the state police commissioner to release all arrested protesters.
The Lagos State Government yesterday disclosed that it has ordered the Nigerian Police to immediately release all #EndSARS protesters detained by the police.
In a tweet shared on the official Twitter handle of the governor @jidesanwoolu. The Nigerian police based on the governor’s directive are to comply with the order of releasing the following people who were arrested during the #EndSARS protests, Nkemakolam Okpara Felicia, Nduka Treasure Chiamaka, Adefila Olanrewaju, Adeola Adebayo, Ayodeji Ayeni, and Adebola Ojabodu.
Speaking at the venue of one of the #EndSARS protest Sanwo-Olu assured that no harm will be meted on the protesters.
According his Twitter message, “I gave a directive to the CP to effect the release of the arrested protesters and they have all been released. Every citizen has a right to protest peacefully. No one will be violated for engaging in a peaceful protest.”
The governor appalled to the youth to return the state government’s gesture by shunning further protests.
He urged Lagosians to take a break from protests and give the government a chance to take tangible steps to resolve the situation that sparked the protests.
Sanwo-Olu revealed that broader issues will be addressed in his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari today,
Meanwhile, report previously had it that three people who reportedly participated in the #EndSARS protest in Ogun State were yesterday arraigned, by the Nigerian police.
It was reported that the protesters were charged with attempted murder. “The Citizens’ Gavel, a civic tech organisation, representing the protesters, said its lawyers were unable to get them out on bail as the magistrate court does not have jurisdiction.
There are conflicting report as counter groups’ protest, say SARS is needed to fight insurgents in Maiduguri.
The matter has been adjourned to tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Nigerian artist Folarin Falana, a.k.a Falz has called the punishment of police officers who have caused people to lose their lives during the protest; insisting their families should be adequately compensated.
In a recent video, the singer who joined others to protest at Lekki Tollgate also demanded that protesters be released from custody across the country.
This comes amid nationwide protest calling for the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad
The singer, stated that victims who have lost their lives at the hands of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad should be compensated.
In a video currently making the rounds, the rapper was seen making the demands adding that the victims deserved justice.

In a tweeter message, @falzthebahdguy/Instagram Falz who joined several other Nigerians to continue the #EndSARS protest at the popular Lekki tollgate also demanded that protesters unjustly arrested across the country be released End SARS movement.
“We want protesters released across the country unconditionally. We want compensation and justice for people that have been killed as a result of police brutality.”
Meanwhile, Nigerian media personality, Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode popularly known as Do2tun, has taken to social media to slam people complaining about the protest. In a recent tweet which he also shared via his Instagram page, the On-Air Personality accused such people of being part of the problems in the country as they aren’t focused on the real issues.
In a related development, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has taken to social media to share what he describes as a nasty experience his daughter had with men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
In a lengthy post shared to his official Instagram page, the monarch expressed joy at the movement to end SARS.
