Iwobi scores, assist as Everton trash Fleetwood
AFTER struggling to gain Ancelotti’s confidence, Super Eagles attacker, Iwobi gained form after featuring against Fleetwood at Highbury Stadium, Alex Iwobi put in arguably his best performance in an Everton shirt with a goal and assist to help the Toffees register a 5-2 win against Fleetwood Town.
Making his first start of the season, the Super Eagles playmaker provided the assist for Everton’s second goal scored by Richarlison; back-heeling the ball to the Brazilian who rifled home in the 34th minute.
Four minutes into the second half, the Nigerian opened his account for the season, converting a cutback to push Everton’s advantage to 3-1.
Everton’s other scorers were Bernard and Moise Kean, while Mark Duffy and Callum Camps found the net for Fleetwood Town. The Nigerian went the full 90.
Everton goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford was left wishing he had been rested for the 5-2 Carabao Cup win at League One side, Fleetwood after two errors of judgement made for an awkward night.
The visitors were coasting at half-time through two Richarlison goals only for England’s number one to blunder three minutes after the restart.
Pickford, one of five players retained from Saturday’s victory over West Brom, dithered over a clearance virtually under his own crossbar and it was charged down to allow substitute Mark Duffy a free shot.
