CHAIRMAN of Nnewi Butchers Association, Kyrian Okafor has revealed that the high cost of cow beef at various markets in the country emanated from the horrible harassment members of Boko Haram sect unleashed on major cattle traders at major states in the Northern part of the country.
Chief Okafor said that as result of the incessant harassments and killing of these cattle traders, most of them have relocated while some abandoned the business for dear lives.
Okafor, who spoke from their secretariat at the Nkwo Nnewi base of the butchers and meat sellers, said that the exchange rate played its painful role in cattle markets.
He said that butchers and beef sellers at their zone maintain all COVID-19 preventive measures due to the addition to the delicate nature of their trade, adding that both Nnewi Vet. Department and their vigilant task force ensure that any sale of unhealthy cow and meat display by members attract huge punitive measures even though such report does not exist in their fold.
He finally called on Anambra State Government to avail them with the modern slaughter and meat slabs, including access roads that link their location which is deplorable.
