EXECUTIVE Secretary of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), Simeon Onyemaechi has commended Anambra state Government for giving ndi Anambra a health insurance scheme that will thrive beyond the present administration.
Speaking with the media, Dr Onyemaechi explained that out of the 90,000 enrollees and counting, 30,000 are sponsored from the informal sector under ASHIA’s adoption model.
Dr. Onyemaechi, who explained that the scheme which is backed by law has surpassed the number mark of sustainability, among others, pointed out that institutionalisation of the scheme by the governor is a huge step.
He continued that the national health insurance scheme had failed which was why it wasn’t existent in Anambra prior to the Obiano-led administration, saying that so far, ASHIA has accredited over 200 hospitals in the state with specific interest in hard -to -reach areas, adding that it doesn’t owe capitation fees of such hospitals which include 0.5 subsidy by the governor.
While noting that response from philanthropists is not enough, Dr. Onyemaechi called on more people to buy into the scheme.
