Anambra legislators wade into Abagana, Ukpo land dispute
MEMBERS of Anambra House of Assembly Committee on Public Petitions have asked all parties involved in land dispute at Akpu Village of Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area and Ukpo in Dunukofia Local Government Area to maintain status-quo in order to allow peace to reign pending the final resolution on the access road case in the area.
The Committee made the call after it visited the road for an on-the-spot assessment.
To this end, the Chairman of the House committee on Public Petitions, meka Aforka said the House will invite both parties on a particular date to make their final submissions and address the House of Assembly accordingly.
Aforka made it clear that the House has no jurisdiction on land ownership but is only after the access road leading to a compound in Ukpo, adding that based on their findings the House will address all the parties appropriately.
Expressing gratitude to the Committee, the Transition Committee Chairman for Dunukofia Local Government Area, Emeka Okonkwo commended the committee for the way it is handling the matter, assuring them that whatever resolution reached, shall be acceptable by both parties.
