A philanthropist in Anglican Communion, the late Chief Ephraim Chukwugozie Anyachebelu (KSC), also known as Sir Gauze, has been laid to rest in his home town, Amaeze Village Oraukwu, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State at the age of 63.
The funeral service held at St. Thomas Parish, Oraukwu, attracted dignitaries such as the Archbishop, Province on the Niger and Bishop of Awka,Most Rev. Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim, Archdeacons, clergy, Council of knights, Igwe Ezechuamagha of Ogidi Kingdom, Igwe Onyido Alex Uzodimma, the President of Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Sir Christ Ukachukwu, the Chairman of the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria, Prof. Ahmed Tijjani Mora, among others.
The late Sir Gauze Anyachebelu was a former Director and Vice President, Awka Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, and also a member of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and the CEO of Gauze Pharmaceutical and Laboratory Ltd, Awka.
In an interview, the Most Rev. Alexander Ibezim commiserated with the family of Anyachebelu, adding that the late Sir Anyachebelu touched a lot of lives, empowered youths and gave hope to the hopeless.
According to him, “he used his wealth to build his pharmaceutical industries, employed a lot of people and did the same way in the church. He worked in the kingdom of God with his material things because the Bible says seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, every other thing shall be added.
“So today, we are celebrating his life. It is not how long one lived but the quality of life lived. It is our prayer that the Lord will comfort the heart of the entire family and the church, Niger and Awka Dioceses”.
Also, Rev. Dr. Chukwukaodinaka Oragu described the demise of the deceased as a big blow and shock to the church and his family and thanked God for generous life he lived, impacted in the society and advised the public to live a good life worthy to be remembered even when they are no more.
“Sir Gauze’s death touched all of us especially those that were very close to him. So, we are all mourning and pray that God will comfort us”.
In a tribute read by the president, Council of knights, Sir Emma Emelummadu said that the deceased was the immediate past president of the Council of knights and described him as a jolly good fellow, a great leader, accomplished and celebrated legend, a philanthropist per excellence and a defender of the defenseless who initiated and implemented far reaching reforms in drug administration and control in particular, on health care delivery in general and received many accolades.
He announced that the Bishop Landry International School Oraukwu has now been named Sir Ephraim Gozie Anyachebelu International School Oraukwu.
Prof. Ahmed Tijjani Mora expressed his shock about the deceased as they were both good friends since his tenure as the registrar, pharmaceutical council before his demise and prayed that his soul will continue to rest in peace.
He was survived by his wife, Prof. Faith Anyachebelu and children, mother, Mrs Rhoda Anyachebelu, Chief Judge Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu and others.
