THE recent emergence of Anambra as the state with lowest unemployment rate in Nigeria has been commended by a collective of social interest group in the state.
The group, Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONET) is a platform for non-state actors and stakeholders in the state.
A release jointly signed by the group’s Chairman, Chris Azor and Secretary, Chisom Chude, lauded Gov. Willie Obiano for achieving the feat at a crucial time when Anambra State is marking 29th year anniversary.
According to them, the feat comes as no coincidence but bears strong attestation to Gov. Obiano’s total commitment to open and inclusive governance which launched more youths to entrepreneurship that had ever happened in the state.
ACSONET listed some development and empowerment strategies of Gov. Obiano that brought this about massive employment.
They include choose-your-project community development initiative, Anambra Community and Social Development Projects (ACSDP), Operation Light-Up Anambra, Anmabra Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIA), Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA) and Anambra Small Businesses Agency (ASBA). All these, they said, are transforming Anambra to Dubai of Africa.
The group urged Gov. Obiano not to relent in his visionary and purposeful leadership to ensure that gains recorded in critical sectors of the state economy are not only consolidated but formed a building block for the in-coming administration.
It will be recalled that the 2020 survey recently published by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) ranked Anambra as state with least unemployed people. The survey shows that only 13 per cent out of the over two million working people are unemployed in Anambra State.
