… Commend him for leadership style

MEMBERS of Anambra State Civil Society Network (ANCSONET) have felicitated with Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano, who marked his birthday anniversary recently.

Speaking in a release issued by the group, Chairman of ANCSONET, Chris Azor said that Gov. Obiano demonstrated uncommon leadership in transforming the Anambra State through innovative reforms and citizen-friendly development policies.

According to Azor, who doubles as co-chairman of Open Government Partnership (OGP), the governor was first to signed up to the agenda of open government in southern Nigeria.

This, Azor said, has tweaked public procurement in Anambra State since the establishment of Anambra State Public Procurement Council and Bureau which has institutionalised reform, transparency, accountability and social justice.

He listed other outstanding citizen-friendly policies initiated by Gov. Obiano to include “choose-your-project community development initiative, Anambra Community and Social Development Projects (ANCSDPs), Operation Light up Anambra, Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIA), Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), Anambra Small Businesses Agency (ASBA), Ease of Doing Business, and provision of network of durable roads in Anambra State.”

Azor said that the group has collectively conferred Gov. Obiano with the title of Open Governor of Nigeria (OGN) in recognition of the governor’s trail blazing policies in the open and transparent government initiatives.

These development initiatives, he continued, have poised Anambra for a transforming into the modern Dubai of Africa.

In his own felicitation, a native of Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area, Dr. Harris Chuma was happy to “acknowledge and honour Gov. Obiano” who he described as “a great leader, as well as a peace loving governor whose devotion to the cause of our state and nation is legendary.”

According to him, Gov. Obiano had lived up to the billing of a pathfinder by remaining “steadfast in defending the gains of APGA’s successful struggle to attain the best political party in Nigeria, thereby paving the way for the socio-economic and political development of our dear State.”

“The State on which you have reposed so much responsibility and trust values, the great contribution that you have made towards the security of lives and properties of ndi Anambra will be a lasting legacy. We continue to value your courage in ongoing efforts to making sure that Anambra State becomes one of the developed states in Nigeria, and continue to have global recognition in terms of the available resources in the state such as agriculture, education and tourism among other sectors,” he said.

He however urged the governor to “revive the Ogbunike cave and other tourism sites in the state and also urgently intervene in giving a sense of belonging to aggrieved APGA members in order to rejig the party’s internal democracy.”
